DAKIN HUMANE SOCIETY JOINS NBCU LOCAL’S ANNUAL ‘CLEAR THE SHELTERS’ PET ADOPTION & DONATION CAMPAIGN AUGUST 19-30

Shelter Will Discount Adoption Fees For Available Pets by 50%

SPRINGFIELD, MA – (8/18/25) – Dakin Humane Society has joined NBCUniversal Local’s 11^th annual Clear The Shelters pet adoption and donation campaign scheduled for Aug. 1 to 31, which features an extended fundraising initiative taking place now through Sept. 15. 22News – CW Springfield, NBCU’s local affiliate, has partnered with Dakin in promoting this event.

Dakin’s own Clear The Shelters Adoption Event is scheduled for August 19-30. At that time, adoption fees for all available pets will be reduced by 50%. All pets available for adoption can be seen on the organization’s website, which lists their regular adoption fees, prior to discount.

As part of the nationwide initiative, NBC and Telemundo stations partner with animal shelters and rescues in their communities to promote pet adoption and raise funds that support animal welfare. Since its 2015 inception, Clear The Shelters has helped nearly 1.2 million pets find new homes and has raised more than $5 million for participating shelters and rescues. 

According to Meg Talbert, executive director at Dakin, “Summer is our busiest time of year. We’ve seen a significant increase in pets needing our services to put them on a path to a new loving home, and we want to minimize their waiting time in the shelter. Our goal is to make adoption more accessible for our community, so we’re cutting adoption fees in half for all available pets August 19-30. Dakin is happy to partner with 22News – CW Springfield to promote this Clear The Shelters event, as well as collaborate on news stories that inform the public about having a pet in the family, as well as the joys found from the human-animal bond.”
